Kåkstad som begrepp är djupt rotat i Sydafrikas apartheidlagar som tvingade ut icke-vita från städerna till eländiga bostäder i periferin utan el och vatten. Apartheid är historia men kåkstäderna är kvar. Bilderna är från Langa, en gammal och relativt välorganiserad kåkstad i Kapstaden.

The concept of township is deeply rooted in South Africa and the apartheid laws. Non-whites were forced out of the cities and forced to live in huts of concrete or corrugated steel. Apartheid is now history but the townships are still here. These photos are from Langa, an old and relatively well organized township in Cape Town.
