The concept of township is deeply rooted in South Africa and the apartheid laws of the 1920’s. Non-whites were forced out of the cities and relocated, some in concrete huts but most often in shelters of corrugated steel sheets or scrap wood. Apartheid is now history but the townships are still here. These photos are from Langa, an old and relatively well organized township in Cape Town.
